Here we go again, yet another headset up for review. This time however it hails from Cyber Snipa and boasts genuine 5.1 surround. I have used several “5.1 surround” headsets and to be honest, thus far, I have not found any that warrant the higher price tag over standard stereo units. Here though it seems the price tag issue has been taken out of the equation.
In most cases the simulated surround support provided by most current soundcards sound just as good on stereo headsets as the “genuine” surround provided by 5.1 sets. The fact that the driver units need to be smaller to accommodate there being more of them in each ear cup usually means lower overall sound quality as well. Lets see how the Cyber Snipa Sonar 5.1 stacks up; hopefully they have avoided at least some of the common pitfalls associated with this type of product. The price point is already a step in the right direction.
