iPhone 5 orders signal September launch

The manufacturer who makes the and has apparently received orders for the .

A Taiwan-based supply chain source told DigiTimes, that scattergun of accuracy news outlet, that Chinese firm Pegatron Technology got the iPhone 5 orders ahead of a scheduled September launch for the next-generation Apple handset.

According to the report Pegatron has also received orders for a 10-inch iPad, which is due to launch at the end of this year - which sounds equally spurious.

Questions marks raised

There are rumours suggesting that we'll see the , which throws into question this latest report of a September release, as Apple likes to roll out its products a matter of weeks after the launch.

The Cupertino-based firm is unlikely to keep its loyal fans waiting almost three months after the launch event and our suspicions don't stop here.

The news of a 10-inch iPad arriving before the year is out is also dubious, as Apple is well known for its yearly product cycles and the screen size is not a radical change from the 9.7-inch offering on all previous iPad incarnations.

So this report is far from convincing, but if the September release date does stand up, we're unlikely to see the iPhone 5 at WWDC.

However let's not forget all the noise surrounding the possible , which is rumoured to be arriving sometime this year.

Updated: Nokia 808 Pureview UK release date changes again

We've seen several rumours surrounding the release date for the , all of which have been false, so is this latest date the real deal?

Back in March we saw as the release date, followed in April by would be the date the 808 Pureview arrives on UK shores.

Clove is the latest online retailer to list an expected release date for the 808 Pureview, however, quoting the week of June 4 on its page.

Official availability to be confirmed

The Clove website states that "first stock delayed until week commencing 4th June" and also notes "official availability to be confirmed" – so the June 4 date is far from set in stone.

It's interesting to see that Clove has said the stock has been delayed, which suggests that the Nokia 808 Pureview could have initially been tagged for an earlier arrival.

Clove has priced the 808 Pureview in the middle of the quotes given on the two sites mentioned above, slapping a £504 price tag on the handset.

The 808 Pureview sports a crazy 41MP camera with Full HD video recording, single-core 1.3Ghz processor, 512MB of RAM, 4-inch AMOLED screen, 16GB internal storage and runs Nokia's own mobile OS, Symbian Belle.

We've contacted Nokia asking if they can provide us with a release date and also if the handset has been update, so we'll update you once we hear back.

Update: Nokia has replied and sadly there's no official word yet on the release date: "We don't have anything new to share at present, but we'll be in touch as soon as we do."

HTC One X message notification issue confirmed

A number of owners have come across a bug on the handset which means they're not always notified of new messages.

Some users have reported that their One X intermittently fails to display the new message notification in the status bar and the counter badge on the messaging app icon.

The knock-on effects are obvious, users could go hours without knowing they have a new SMS - only finding out when the messaging app is opened.

Only small number affected, fix on the way

HTC has confirmed the issue exists, but claims that it only affects a small number of One X handsets.

The Taiwanese manufacturer also confirms it is working on a fix for the issue, which it will roll out as soon as possible, but no exact date has been provided for this update.

The HTC One X is an excellent phone, scoring 4.5 out of 5 in our full , but it hasn't been without issue.

During on our unit wasn't the best, but HTC claimed it to resolve this, before it to say its working on it.

HTC is hoping its new , but continued issues with the flagship One X could have a detrimental effect, especially as its biggest rival, the , will hit stores at the end of the month.

HTC Desire C usurps Wildfire C and Golf

The HTC Golf has now seen a trio of names pass under its radar, with the latest suggestion being the budget handset will be known as the HTC Desire C.

We first got wind of the Desire C back in March when news of the , followed by a report that the Golf would .

An ITProPortal source has now claimed that the handset will launch as the HTC Desire C and provided snaps of the handset.

HTC Desire C

That's not my name

The Wildfire brand is HTC's way of marking out its budget handsets, where as the Desire brand has been used on higher end devices such as the original and .

It would be a strange move by HTC to use the Desire brand on a cheaper device instead of its already established Wildfire name.

Whatever its name, HTC's next budget handset looks set to impress with leaked specs suggesting it will pack a 3.2-3.5-inch VGA display, 512MB of RAM, 4GB internal storage, Android with , 5MP camera, Beats Audio and microSD slot.

The specs here are not widely different of those of the , but we expect the Desire C (or Wildfire C?) to enter at a lower price point, to go head to head with the likes of the and .

Nokia unfazed by LG's Windows Phone snub

Nokia unfazed by LG's Windows Phone snub

LG's decision to pull back on its plans to make more handsets could be considered somewhat of a double-edged sword for .

On one hand, it's one less competitor, but on the other Nokia's future rests very heavily on the overall success of Windows Phone and the more phone-makers pushing it, the better for everyone involved.

However, Nokia America president Chris Weber says he isn't too worried by the LG snub, and says there are plenty of manufacturers still showing love for the innovative Microsoft platform.

He told FierceWireless in an interview: "I see significant commitment from HTC, Samsung. I actually see increased momentum and commitment form a various set of OEMs on the platform."

Android demand comes first for LG

Last week, LG admitted that while it was , it had no plans to release new handsets for the foreseeable future as it was too busy fulfilling the demand for Android.

Nokia has been encouraged by sales of the in the United States, which has certainly helped the perception of both the company and Windows Phone as legitimate alternatives to iOS and Android.

Weber says the company will continue to push a host of Lumia-exclusive Windows Phone apps, like Nokia Drive and the ESPN Hub, while also attempting to woo the Verizon network in the US.

He added: "Obviously, we're very aware of the importance of having Verizon in the fold and we're working on that."

Verizon has previously said it will jump on board when Windows Phone 8 (Apollo) launches towards the end of the year.
