Geforce GTX 260

NVIDIA today released the GeForce GTX 200 series GPUs. The new GeForce GTX 280 and GeForce GTX 260 feature the 2nd generation NVIDIA Unified Architecture which delivers 50% more performance, the NVIDIA CUDA technology and support for 3-way SLI. The GeForce GTX 260 has a MSRP of $399 and the GeForce GTX 280 costs $649.

One of the things NVIDIA is stressing with the launch of the GeForce GTX 200 GPUs is the increased role for the GPU in a computing system. The CUDA general-purpose parallel processing mode brings PhysX support to CUDA-enabled graphics cards along with a new generation of programs that tap into the vast processing power of GPUs to significantly speed up certain tasks like video transcoding.
